Patience
© Daystar Devotional, 2011
Often, we may rush through life without taking the time to seek Godly guidance. Everything that we do, it seems, must be done right away. We may constantly disregard the will of God for our daily decisions. Many mistakes are made as we fail to wait upon the Lord’s perfect timing and direction. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;...”(Isa 40:31a) As believers, our patience is developed continually as we rely upon the indwelling Spirit and ask for His guidance. “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
( Jas 1:3,4)

While attempting to solve our problems in our own strength and wisdom we become discouraged. “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.”(Eccl 7:8, 9) When we exhibit patience we walk in obedience to God’s word, displaying His divine character. Our daily decisions concerning our finances, career, relationships, emotions, or health become much easier when we look to him for direction.

The Bible tells us to “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him…”(Psalm 37:7) Resting in the lord is to be silent before him. We shouldn’t complain and murmur when things don’t go in accordance with our plans. Instead we should ask the Lord to give us the discipline and endurance we need to wait upon him. A great deal of restraint and self-control is required for us to wait for him. This requires us to be totally submissive upon him through prayer, reading our bibles and godly fellowship.

Even if the Lord does not seem to give us an answer immediately, we must continue in prayer and trust that He will give us His guidance. If we are to prosper we must keep our focus on the Lord regardless of the circumstances we encounter. God is all knowing and will give us exactly what’s required; at the precise moment and with His perfect timing. “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”(II Cor 5:7) Only as we walk by faith in the Lord and His ability, will we understand the necessity of patience and experience true peace in the process.

Lord Jesus, place within my heart a desire to patiently wait upon You regarding every decision I must make. I’m grateful You have made it possible for me to live in true peace and eternal hope, instead of frustration and despair. I know that I am constantly growing as I seek Your will and obey Your Word. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:"
(Isa 26:3, 4)
Rom 15: 5
Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like-minded one toward another according to Christ Jesus.
There is always a great deal of curiosity of why something didn’t happen the way we thought it would.
Trying to fix our own problems in our own strength and wisdom leads to stress, frustration and confusion
I Tim 6:11
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after rightewousness, godliness, faith love, patience, meekness.
James 1:3
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Patience is to endure in the face of adversity; showing self-control
Ultimately, we have to give the Lord the preeminence in all areas of our lives not just the area we are seeking answers for.
